i watched this movie today for free! Thanks to Jonathan Tye for the free tickets! Free tickets are good! lol.
if you have not watch this movie, i'll highly recommend it and ya, pls dont read on to spoil the excitment if you're gonna watch it! and if you've watched it, i would like to share some of my thoughts on it. i dont usually like to watch this genre of movie, action and the end of the world drama kind, but i really enjoyed this show for the following reasons. i watched it at Lido 1 with an almost full packed audience, so ya imagine the kinda of setting.
1) There are hilarious anti-climax scenes IN THE MIDST OF CHAOS which just cracks u up! :) thumbs up! it was quite obvious there were several in the theatre just now who wanted to clap just because those scenes were just superbly timed and funny!
2) The kids are soooooo CUTE. not those who are playful, naughty or nice. but those with a good sense of humour, wit, and courage! Just the kind you'd wanna give birth to! lol.
3) the 4 spaceships which were built to save were unmistakably noah's ark lookalikes! except that they are not wooden but metal like. The size and shape are all copycats of Noah's ark. In fact the movie mentions Genesis. Isn't it just amazing to know that Man concurs that God has the best design, and Noah the best architect? :)
3) It makes you look at humanness in the face of impending death. There ARE some who face death squarely and courageously. It is painful to watch people die in this movie, but its more unthinkable/unbearable to watch those who watch others die. How much is humanity worth? Are different lives pegged at different values?
4) "if my father was here, he would have opened the doors." this line was said by the US president's daughter in the show. She supported the geologist's plea to the captain to open the doors of the ship to let the people board. They couldn't bear to watch them die. Humanity is at stake here. This is a most dramatic scene. People were falling from the edge one by one.
how could one not do anything? well one could ignore! is ignorance really bliss? For the humans, it is AGONY! as i thought about this, i thought about Father God.
COULD GOD BEAR TO WATCH PEOPLE DIE AND NOT DO ANYTHING?
i'm sure God would open the doors and let the people come in to safety.
God is Lord.
and He is love.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. " - John 3:16
5) People rejoice when their lives are saved, and when they see a life saved. There ARE a few brave souls who would risk their lives to save others. I wonder, if i am on board that ship, which category of people would i belong to? Would i risk my live for others? Will i stumble or stand in the face of death? Would i have unfinished business?
Mr "US president" stayed behind in his White House till his last breath. He called his daughter to say he would tell the people the truth so that they'll have time to say goodbye to their loved ones, to huddle and comfort each other, and for those who need to seek forgiveness.
what would i do when the end comes? what would i be doing?
will i wait till death comes for me till i start to live?
what does it really mean when we say we love each other?
have we held too tightly to unimportant earthly things that we loose hold of the truly important eternal ones?
what are we holding on to, today? Will those things matter when death comes? Do they have eternal value?
6) watching 2012 has led me to reflect so much about humanity, death and my life. It is a sobering wake up call. Yet despite it all, i see HOPE. God is the God of hope. God is love. God saves!
Father God, i pray you awaken our souls from slumber. Wake us up in this hour when we need to be awake. We need to start living. We need to tell the world the truth of your love. Help us never, never, never, never to give up!
last saturday during worship, Ps Ron asked all of us, "what would you say to God now?"i suppose many would tell God how much they love and adore Him, how much they thank Him and are grateful for Him in their lives. for me, i know i cannot stand before God and lie. i wished at that point i can tell God how much i love Him because i really do. i wished i can tell God how thankful i am for Him in my life because He has been so good to me. I wished i can tell God how much i know He loves me because i know He does. wanna make a guess what i told God?as i whispered my honest answer, tears streamed down my cheeks. i felt so ashamed that i actually thought God didn't care and didn't love me anymore. even though i didn't say it, i actually felt that God had abandoned me. and at the altar where i knew i couldn't lie, i only whispered and managed one word to God. "Sorry."i've neglected misunderstood the ONE person who matters most. :( :( :(How could i've believed that the Lord doesn't love me anymore? How could i've believed that i couldn't hear God anymore?"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. " -1 John 4: 7-12shall we count the number of times the word "love" appeared in the above verses?Jesus loves me this i know, for the bible tells me so! (and every sunday school kid will tell us so!)The Lord has heard me, and i've heard the Lord.
in the context of Ephesians 1-3 (in the bible).
-God's plan is to create a church to redeem mankind.
-the church is a reflection of God's glory.
-----------------------------------------------------
Lionel taught this (among many others) last fri during cell group meeting. but i singled this out because i think church has always been a point of contention among even church goers and Christians. we all have many views of what and how church should be. it seems church is more like an option for us than a compulsory; a choice rather than a must. of all people, if Christians do not understand the purpose of the church, then... it is really :(.
my afterthoughts:
church is you and me, all of us who profess to be Christians who follow Christ. If we profess we follow Christ, if we insist we are His, we are His church, whether we like our church or not. It is never our church, it is HIS CHURCH. The church as God intended to be is His body on earth. God meant for church to be a reflection of His glory.
God meant for church to be a reflection of His glory.
that truth blew me away.
what?
serious?
how far the church have fallen! (Serene blurted out)
"not fallen but in the process of discovering" (in Lionel's words)
gosh! (in Serene's thoughts)
*stressed* (in Wan Jin's word)
enormous responsibility! (cell nodded in agreement)
to be counted as part of His church is such an awesome privilege yet humbling at the same time.
what a glorious and high calling.
you mean i am part of this?
oh God, you meant for us to be part of your high and glorious calling! You meant for church to be a reflection of Your glory and manifold wisdom. the church is the body of Christ Jesus on earth. Jesus is the head. Jesus is the chief cornerstone.
i stand in awe of that truth; totally blown over; totally won over.
"Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit." -Eph 2:19-22
"His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence." - Eph 3:10-12
Dear Jesus, your death on the cross has redeemed us, totally and completely. You are the head of Your church.
Help us "...to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope when you were called— one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all." (Eph 4:1-6)
Dear Jesus, in the choices and decisions we make, in how we view church and what we do in church, may you teach us church as You intended it to be. Help us live as Your redeemed people. May we (the church) live up to Your calling. let us start from each of our own lives; in the daily choices we make, how we treat other people, how we treat our family, how we view our work/school/time, what we do when no one's looking, what we do in church, what we do outside church etc. Jesus, lead and guide us. We are so far away from what You intended church, restore us Lord. Sorry Lord for missing the mark. Sorry for all the things we've done and have not done as Your church. Forgive and pardon us Lord. Help us to start living for You today. Help us to live as the church You intended. We may stumble and fall along the way, we have weakness and flaws, we fail and we struggle. But Lord you do not despise, nor do you condemn. You know each one of us. You love each of us. You desire to see us succeed. You desire to see Your church unite as ONE, just as you and the Father and Holy Spirit are ONE. Help us Lord. Strengthen our feeble bones. Rain down on the dry bones. Shed light on the valley of darkness. Jesus, teach us to hold on to You the way You've taken hold of us. Teach us to glorify You Lord. In Jesus's name i ask, Amen.
Church is God's idea. It is His. it is all about Him. Let Him take the highest honour and glory.
