in ALL things..

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

-Romans 8:28

(i'm reminded of God's goodness, and the fact that He cares for those who love him, He cares for them in ALL things, not some, and He works for their benefit. God is so kind!)

it's pride.

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

a conversation with Joi over dinner just now led to a discussion of pride. and she pointed out the pride in me. "isn't that pride?" she asked as she listened to my sharing.

gosh, she was so right on and sharp. and i was like a fool, oblivious to the pride that i had. in fact, i think i had so much pride in me. the scary thing is, i wasnt aware until she pointed it out. pride can be so subtle. that just caught me off guard. and with whatever 'face' i have left, i admitted i was indeed so full of pride. its hard to admit that; but i am glad i did. i am glad she pointed it out to me.

now that i know, i am so conscious that i cannot shake it off. and i need to really humble before the Lord and say God help me with it. i dont want to be destroyed cos of my pride. i dont want a gulf between you and me bcos of my pride.

this conversation is such a sober and serious reminder for me to humble myself before the Lord, and to be so mindful of the pride that creeps in and threatens to destroy my r/s with the Lord.
pride is dangerous. pride leads to downfall. no one can really say they are not susceptible to pride. satan fell bcos of pride. many great leaders fell bcos of pride.

in the bible, King Uzziah, a young king who started on the right footing with God prospered in every way. Yet, in his later years, his pride led to his downfall. A fatal and irreversible one.

"But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the LORD his God, and entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense. Azariah the priest with eighty other courageous priests of the LORD followed him in. They confronted him and said, "It is not right for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD. That is for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who have been consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have been unfaithful; and you will not be honored by the LORD God." -2Chron 26:16-18

may we be reminded of the destructive nature of pride, and always check ourselves. lets all humble ourselves and lay bare our motives before the Lord and have him examine them.

dear Father, humble me.

Much to learn!

Sunday, September 20, 2009

God is teaching me many things about a relationship.

and i have so much to learn, so much to know about!!!! and God is so patient that He sees me through my many mistakes, tears, worries, and hurt; those things i try to bury deep within my heart so no one can see. and the thousand and one things running through my mind and emotions racing through my heart. Nothing escapes His sight.

That is so powerful, so liberating, so comforting and reassuring.

we may not score As for every lesson he made for us to learn, but i think i am starting to understand that God cares more about the things we learn and the persons we become rather than the grades we get.

suddenly it seems i am enlightened on so many things.

melancholic night

19/9/09

i saw a client for the 1st time today...... and she cried in front of me, while talking to me.

words eluded me during our lunch and words left me during our ride on the train.

during YA service earlier, when the worship team sang "rain down", i just fell to my knees and interceded for my clients. all the clients i am seeing now are facing financial difficulties and my heart really goes out to them whenever i hear of their dire situations. they really dont have any money, and it is such a struggle for them and their families. its really painful to hear such stories. and i was just reminded during service how helpless i am when i try to help them, i cannot do much for them really. and i just told God to help them. and i told God to use me to help them. and the tears just flowed as i interceded for them. it also dawned upon me then that it has been a long time since i last interceded for people. then i started to pray for the ministry, my work, my workplace, the young adults, for the r/s-- basically all the things that came to my mind i prayed and lay them before the Lord. suddenly there were so many needs to pray for, and so many burdens!
it was only when i began to lay them one by one before the Lord that i realised the many burdens i had been carrying..alone.

and i realise God didn't mean for me to carry them alone.

that was a big OOOPS. and :(.

then after service was the monthly and last YA cell leaders meeting. we say goodbye to a 'mother' and a 'friend' who has been with us for 2 years in the YA ministry, 2 people who have been through the ups and the downs with us, 2 people who has been leading us. our beloved 2 super power female pastors. They are the new age superwoman supernatural power packed pastors! Super garang and gungho. okay.. yes i just find them to be so amazing women of God.
GOODBYE IS ALWAYS THE HARDEST THING TO SAY. and though i know we will still see them around in church, i just cant help but feel sad, that she bu de feeling. the want to cry but no tears flow kinda sadness. yes, melancholy finally finds me. just let me mel awhile and i'll be ok.
and i almost cried near the end of the prayer but somehow the tears just held back.

and today, i also said goodbye to a relationship for now.

but i am glad i said hello to the friendship.

in mel times like these (which are quite seldom for me), i realise, when you mel, you just wanna feel and not think.

maybe thats why it is better NOT to make decisions when you're feeling mel.

its a melancholic night. a cold one.

daddy hold my hand!

Monday, September 07, 2009

the past week of work has been demoralising for me.. i feel so lousy about the work i am doing after the talk with my boss and team leader. that feeling really sucks. it was so bad that i wanted to just resign on the spot! to throw in the towel after 1 and a half years of social work. serious. have i really made a difference? why am i doing what i am doing now? what difference have i made in this 1 year plus as a social worker? any?

i felt that i didn't do a good job...and maybe i didn't made any difference at all. i also felt helpless cos many times i dunno what i should do with regards to my work, so incompetent. things beyond me were thrusted into my hands. i swam without being taught the strokes, without a float- and i didn't ask for help. as a result, i fumble, struggle and eventually drown.

and when confronted, i crumble. i began to see how unwise i acted. i felt slighted initially cos i felt so misunderstood. yet when i shared this with Matt, i realised i just didn't want to admit the truth. he's probably right, but i just couldnt take his words cos of my pride. my pride stopped me from being receptive to his feedback. it caused me to be defensive.

so when friday came, when i had another meeting with my team leader, in which i was given feedback for my work, it was so hard to hear what was being said. yet i reminded myself not to let pride get me defensive. so i honestly revealed the challenges i faced and the helplessness i felt. there were so many areas that i overlooked and things i failed to follow up with. i felt really bad about myself, and about my work. tears streamed down my face as i pondered my own helplessness .

and i told "God, you wanted me to be in this field right? and.. i am failing in it now..."
and i asked God "what should i do now?"

and in that moment with God, i realise i have been missing Him. and i just really need Him.
i need to spend more time with God cos He has been waiting to spend time with me.

what the pastor shared on sat at trinity church really touched my heart.
a father and his little daughter needed to cross a river, and the bridge was narrow. the father said to his little girl, "hold tight to my hand". and his girl replied, "no, Daddy, you hold my hand." The father was bewildered and asked what is the difference.
And his daughter replied, "If i hold your hand, if anything happens, i may just let go of your hand. But if you hold my hand, i know that no matter what, you will never let go."
